If this were an actual comment I would go into more detail here, but as it is, I'm just typing some stuff to fill up a little more of the textbox, and also trying some

to see what happens.

When I clicked on this thread it told me "This is just a preview; you can see the whole thread." But I was, at the time, looking at the entire thread; it was just that one comment and it was complete. We might want to save the "preview" language for cases where there really is more to see. (The link to the whole thread, even if you've already seen everything, should remain, for consistency and so it's easy for people to get a permalink.)

How many comments can you post before the preview cuts off?

At least three. How about four?

Saw all four; let's try five. I'm going to guess that the magic number is actually six, which I think is the cutoff for collapsing on the main branch.

I got a notification for my own self-ping. That might be fine; if you're going to ping yourself you probably had a reason, and "use a notification as a reminder" might be it. Shrug.

Apparently posting a comment auto-follows the thread; I just got several pings from User C (Curator)‭. Let's consider one of those dismissible "FYI" notices the first time this happens to someone, pointing out the "unfollow" link.

Also, could we collapse notifications from a single thread into one notification instead of one per comment? We could check to see if there's a pending notification from the thread already and, if so, not add another. (Read notifications don't count, though; want new ones.)
